Gold Medal Finalists! - 1 of 4 in America!
The American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA), in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is pleased to announce City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department as a finalist for the 2016 National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. Having been finalists in 2007 and 2008 for this prestigious award, and winning in 2008, the department is excited to "go for the gold" once again!

Memorial Day Celebration

Join the Parks, Arts and Recreation Department at the Veterans Memorial as we pay tribute to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom. This year’s event will include Bagpiper, 21-gun salute, Vintage Aircraft Flyover, Taps, Laying of the Wreath, Photo display, Free All-American hot dog lunch, Live Orchestra, and much more! The Memorial Day Service is presented by the Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department, the Metro Rotary Club of Grand Prairie, the Grand Prairie Rotary Club, and Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control. Crawfish Boil
Saturday, June 4 • 10am • Farmers Market • 120 W. Main St.
The Grand Prairie Farmers Market will be open from 8am - 2pm Saturday, June 4 at Market Square featuring a crawfish boil from 10am - 2pm, water and soda garden, live music, gift market, arts and crafts, and games. Tasty authentic crawfish prepared by Dustin Clement’s Head’s or Tails Cajun Crawfish will be sold at $10 per pound and will be accompanied with potatoes and corn. The crawfish will be available beginning at 10am. 

Summer Camps
June 6 - August 19 • Monday - Friday • 7am - 6pm
Come sign up today for summer camp! This is hands down the best summer camp experience that your child will ever experience. There are a ton of activities to do such as arts and crafts, movies, weekly swimming, field trips and endless amounts of gym games. We also offer specialty camps in which consists of fishing, water sports, golf, dance, theatre arts, science, eReading and a Olympic Day and much, much more. Lunch and snack are provided daily.

Available at Tony Shotwell Life Center, Dalworth Recreation Center and Charley Taylor Recreation Center.

Residents: $80/week/child
Non-Residents: $100/week/child

Lynn Creek Park NOW OPEN

Lynn Creek Park is now open for the season! Hours of operation are 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Lynn Creek Park, 5610 Lake Ridge Parkway, has more than 100 individual picnic pavilions, a playground, swimming beach, boat ramps, sand volleyball, and plenty of open space for setting up the perfect spot with your family. Opportunity for Families to Host GSWCL Players
The Great Southwest Collegiate League (GSWCL) invites families of Grand Prairie and surrounding communities to host league players in their home for two months during the 2016 summer season. As a host family, you can build relationships with quality student-athletes who understand the values of hard work, determination and family involvement. Your child will have the opportunity to be mentored by a college player in the important fundamentals of the game, the rigorous training side of the game and the mental approach to the game they all enjoy. In addition, the GSWCL will provide your family with a food stipend for the summer and a complimentary season ticket package to all GSWCL games and all home games for the Texas AirHogs in 2016. Flight of the Monarch Sponsorship Opportunities

Learn more than a game through putting, chipping, pitching and full swing activities that teach the Nine Core Values like respect, perseverance, and confidence.

The Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department's Recreation Centers offer an After School Program during the school year. Register early. Spaces fill quickly! The recreation centers accept participants from all schools, however we only pick up from specific locations.

Grand Prairie Named Playful City USA!
Grand Prairie has been honored for the eighth year as a 2015 Playful City USA community by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization dedicated to bringing back active play in children's lives. KaBOOM! recognizes communities that make an effort to create a kid-friendly and family-friendly city. With 58 park sites and over 5,000 acres of park land throughout the city, Grand Prairie meets more than the satisfactory level required by KaBOOM! to help promote play. Grand Prairie promotes play by providing kids and families with state-of-the-art playgrounds and a variety of many recreational activities. EPIC PlayGrand Adventures
PlayGrand Adventures is an exciting opportunity to provide a safe, fun playground experience of ‘EPIC’ proportions for all ages and abilities. The playground will include separate adventure areas which are designed to stimulate, challenge and encourage development of several skill sets while providing social interaction, sense of discovery, creativity and exercise. The playground is part of a much larger overall park project which will include the EPIC, a state of the art recreation center, EPIC Waters indoor/outdoor water park, trail system and amphitheater at Central Park.

With an approval rate of 75%, Grand Prairie citizens voted to begin “The Epic” project. This legacy development will bring numerous additions to Central Park, including:  Major Recreation/Life Changing Center, indoor water park, amphitheater, library, trails, all-inclusive playground, and lake based recreation amenities.

Disc Golf Mini-Tournaments at Turner Park
A brand new 18-hole disc golf course is opwn at Turner Park. The Lone Star Lasers disc golf association is hosting “Mini-Tournaments” there for all ages and skill levels each Saturday morning, with a start time of 10 a.m. Come enjoy one of the fastest growing and most fun sports in the country!
