Ice Cream Challenge Saturday, July 30 • 10am - 1pm • Farmers Market • 120 W. Main St. The Grand Prairie Farmers Market will host the second annual Farmers Market Ice Cream Challenge from 10am-1pm (or until sold out). Charities will go head-to-head to see who has the best homemade ice cream recipe in order to be crowned the champions and win money for their charity. Tickets to sample all charities homemade ice cream and vote for your favorite will be on sale the day of the event.
Shotwell Life Center 10 Year Anniversary Saturday, July 30 • 1-5pm • Shotwell Life Center • 2750 Graham St. The Tony Shotwell Life Center invites you to celebrate 10 years of operation! The celebration will be held on Saturday, June 30 from 1-5pm. The celebration will include family friendly fun, including live music! The event is free and open to the public.
Mrs. Ruthe's Fig & Fudge Day Saturday, August 6 • 8am - 1pm • Farmers Market • 120 W. Main St. The Grand Prairie Farmers Market is gettiní figgy with it for Mrs. Rutheís Fig and Fudge Day. Celebrating the cityís legendary Grand Dame and long-time City Councilwoman Mrs. Ruthe Jacksonís life of service, fresh figs from her garden, fig preserves and fudge will be sold, benefiting Lifeline Shelter for Families in Grand Prairie. The day will include a fudge contest, and a cooking demonstration featuring figs by Chef Susan Faulkner and Mrs. Rutheís daughter, Mayor Pro Tem Jorja Clemson. To enter the contests, fill out Mrs. Ruthe's Fig & Fudge Entry Form. Numerous Farmers Market vendors will also feature figs and fudge in their wares.

Main St. Get your hot roasted Hatch chiles at Grand Prairie Farmers Marketís 6th annual Hatch Chile Festival on from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20. The festival will feature both raw and roasted Hatch chiles sold by the pound, live music, food, beer and much more! The American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA), in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is pleased to announce City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department as a finalist for the 2016 National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. Grand Prairie Named Playful City USA! Grand Prairie has been honored for the eighth year as a 2015 Playful City USA community by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization dedicated to bringing back active play in children's lives. KaBOOM! recognizes communities that make an effort to create a kid-friendly and family-friendly city. With 58 park sites and over 5,000 acres of park land throughout the city, Grand Prairie meets more than the satisfactory level required by KaBOOM! to help promote play. Grand Prairie promotes play by providing kids and families with state-of-the-art playgrounds and a variety of many recreational activities. Outdoor facilities include the Lone Star Trail, which features 3.95 miles of trail, parks at Joe Pool Lake, numerous playgrounds, a soccer complex, baseball and softball fields, golf courses, and Splash Factory, an interactive water park. EPIC PlayGrand Adventures PlayGrand Adventures is an exciting opportunity to provide a safe, fun playground experience of ‘EPIC’ proportions for all ages and abilities. The playground will include separate adventure areas which are designed to stimulate, challenge and encourage development of several skill sets while providing social interaction, sense of discovery, creativity and exercise. The playground is part of a much larger overall park project which will include the EPIC, a state of the art recreation center, EPIC Waters indoor/outdoor water park, trail system and amphitheater at Central Park.

With an approval rate of 75%, Grand Prairie citizens voted to begin “The Epic” project. This legacy development will bring numerous additions to Central Park, including: Major Recreation/Life Changing Center, indoor water park, amphitheater, library, trails, all-inclusive playground, and lake based recreation amenities.

Walnut Creek Paddling Trail at Joe Pool Lake The Walnut Creek Paddling Trali at Joe Pool Lake, brought to you by The City of Grand Prairie Parks & Recreation Department and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, is a 4.9-mile marked trail that winds though Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake.
